Historical Fiction Art & Research

Art/Research Google Slides Presentations

We have been reading about the Civil Rights Movement, a period in time, here in America, when people took a stand against discrimination and inequality that the black culture was facing.

The students have also learned about the Harlem Renaissance which occurred in the 1920s.  Many black citizens migrated to the North, into urban areas, where there were jobs.  What happened was an appreciation of black culture for the first time in these cities, and also ushered in an era of black pride.

To lead into our upcoming Documentary and Research Unit, our students spent a day in the Media Center with our Media Specialist, Mary Hasler.  Mrs. Hasler helped the students to explore all of the scholarly research databases available to the students through our district. The students have applied our newly discovered knowledge, here, in class, completing a short research project in which the students picked a famous piece of art from the Harlem Renaissance or Civil Rights Movement Eras.  The students completed research on the piece itself, as well as the artist. As a final piece of our project, the students compiled their information onto a Google Slide, cited their work, and as a class, created one giant presentation rich with facts, interpretations, and culture.

Below, you will find our class presentations that the students worked hard to complete. Enjoy your walk through these parts of Black History!
