Dear WWPRSD Community,

Over the past eleven weeks, I have been amazed by the remarkable efforts of our students, staff, and parents to work together to navigate COVID and its effects in our school community. With rising national, state, and local cases, our school community has been greatly impacted. Since the opening of our schools September 8, we have had 421 students placed either in quarantine or isolation and 199 staff members placed in quarantine or isolation.

Reasons for quarantine and/or isolation include:

  • Staff and students that identify symptoms on the Daily Health Screening form (questions from the NJ Department of Health)
  • Staff and students that have tested positive for COVID.
  • Staff and students that have been in close contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more during a 24 period) of a COVID-19 positive individual
  • Staff and students that have traveled from a state on the NJ Travel Advisory List
  • Staff and students that have traveled internationally

During the past eleven weeks, we have seen statewide daily cases rise from 284 cases per day to over 4,000 daily cases. Throughout the escalation of the number of cases, the procedures and protocols that the District has put into place have been successful in mitigating school-based spread. However, these past two weeks have seen an exponential increase in contact tracing, quarantining, and positive cases in our school community. Our West Windsor and Plainsboro families, and the families of our staff members, are feeling the effects of this devastating virus. With the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, rising state and national cases, the return of our college students, and increased interstate and intrastate travel that we know will include gathering with family and friends, it is evident that the District must take actions to protect the health and safety of our staff, students, and greater school community.

Therefore, in coordination with our local Departments of Health, and out of great respect to the health and safety of our students, staff, and school community, we have determined the need for a temporary move to a full-remote learning model to help mitigate the possibility of additional spread in our school community and the West Windsor and Plainsboro communities at large. WW-P will move to a full-remote model after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Beginning Monday, Nov. 30 through Wednesday, Dec. 9, the District and all instruction will remain fully remote.

Return to Hybrid/Virtual/All-In Instruction Program

We will resume in-person for those students who participate in the hybrid and all-in instruction models with Hybrid 2 on Thursday, December 10Hybrid 2 students will attend in-person for 2 days that week.  The week of December 14th will be a Hybrid 1 schedule (5 days).  We will conclude December with an additional 3 day week for Hybrid 2 students (week of Dec. 21st). These ten days of instruction will be a critical touch base for our students experiencing a Hybrid 1, Hybrid 2, and All-In learning model. Please note: The Dec. 10 return to school date will be reevaluated prior to our return, based upon local and state COVID data, guidance from our local Departments of Health and recommendations from the New Jersey Department of Health, and any corresponding Executive Order by Governor Murphy. Any changes will be communicated prior to our return to in-person instruction.

Winter Recess

It is also important to note that upon the conclusion of Winter Recess (Dec. 23, 2020 – Jan. 1, 2021) the district will observe a 14 day temporary move to full-remote learning beginning Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, through Monday, Jan. 18. We will return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, Jan. 19. The week of Jan. 19 will be Hybrid 1.  Please note: This Jan. 19, 2021, return to school date will be reevaluated prior to our return, based upon local and state COVID data, guidance from our local Department of Health and recommendations from the New Jersey Department of Health, and any corresponding Executive Order by Governor Murphy. Any changes will be communicated prior to our return to in-person instruction.

14-Day Travel Quarantine

If you travel out of state at any point during our temporary closure, the 14-day quarantine remains.  The states requiring a quarantine period have been identified and continue to be updated by the State of New Jersey. Regardless of a possible short-term transition to remote learning, in an effort to protect our students and staff, we will adhere strictly to the State guidelines. Click here for additional information provided by the District’s physicians regarding quarantine and isolation.

Community Education

We recognize the impact this transition may have on our WW-P families. We have coordinated with our Community Education Program to offer families the option to register for EDP care while we are fully remote. Please click here for additional information and the registration link. As this program adheres to all state gathering guidelines, spaces are limited. The opening of this program is dependent on staffing and must be in line with any Executive Order in place at the time.

Wednesday, Nov. 25 Schedule

Thanksgiving Recess begins with a half-day Wednesday, Nov. 25. Grade level schedules for Wednesday, Nov. 25, are linked below. This schedule applies to both hybrid and all-virtual students.

  • Maurice Hawk half-day preschool is closed.
  • Elementary schools will operate on a conference day schedule allowing students to experience all classes in the morning.

Please remain vigilant as we continue to see an alarming increase in COVID cases throughout our state and region. I wish you and your families’ health and safety in the days ahead.

Sincerely,

David Aderhold, Ed.D.
