The Road Back

Dear WW-P Community

This afternoon, Governor Murphy released the New Jersey Department of Education's The Road Back: Restart and Recovery Plan for Education.

The document outlines four key areas for considerations:

  1. Conditions for Learning
  2. Leadership and Planning
  3. Policy and Funding
  4. Continuity of Learning

The district’s leadership team and our Reopening Subcommittees will be reviewing this document and using its recommendations and guidelines as guidance for our fall 2020 reopening planning.

During the Governor’s press conference, it was clear that school districts would be granted flexibility to consider local conditions and local needs as they build a reopening plan. While expectations indicate an in person model, the plan clearly allows for hybrid and flexible options to accommodate social distancing requirements. Square foot ratios and 6’ social distancing restrictions will render a “traditional” opening unattainable. Further, the guidance to allow only 11 students per 54-passenger bus will present major operational challenges.

Throughout the press conference, it was clear that Governor Murphy and Commissioner Repollet have made the health and safety of our students and staff a top priority in the guidance.

WW-P is committed to developing plans that are flexible and adaptive for opening in September. These plans must be grounded in the safety, health, and wellness of our staff and students. We will work to develop models of reopening that meet the diverse needs of our families within the parameters provided.

As we develop further plans, based upon today’s much anticipated guidance, we will provide our school community with further updates.

Please continue to be safe and be well.

Dr. Aderhold
