Seal of Biliteracy

Seal of Biliteracy
Posted on 10/25/2017

WW-P is excited to offer the opportunity for graduating seniors to earn the State Seal of Biliteracy by demonstrating proficiency in English and another world language.

In our rapidly changing world, students who are bilingual and biliterate are more equipped to engage in global challenges and are more college and career ready.  This program recognizes the excellence students have already achieved and does not require extra coursework.

Our goals in participating in this program are to:

  • Certify attainment of biliteracy
  • Provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills
  • Provide universities with a method to recognize and award academic credit to applicants seeking admission
  • Prepare our students with 21st century skills
  • Strengthen intergroup relationships, affirm the value of diversity, and honor the multiple cultures and languages of our community

To earn the Seal, a student must demonstrate proficiency in a world language at a minimum proficiency level of Intermediate Mid and pass all graduation requirements in English Language Arts.

  • The district will offer AAPPL  testing in Mandarin, French, German and Spanish. Other languages may be tested only if AAPPL offers the test in that language. The AAPPL Measure is available in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and ESL. • ELL students must earn a score of 4 or better on Tier B or C of the ACCESS  in all four language domains.
  • Students who took the AP Language and Culture exam in their language as juniors and earned a 4 or 5 automatically qualify and do not need to re-test.

The District will offer testing early in 2018. Testing services will be provided by the district outside of school hours, and the cost per student is $30.  Specific dates will be forthcoming.
